God damn.  I don’t even really like black metal, and this is pretty amazing.  Maybe because it’s light on many of the usual black metal elements and concentrates a little more on death/progressive metal?  Anyways, a few of the guys in Ovid’s Withering, John from Oscillator, and Magero of Slice the Cake (who cites NO as one of his greatest musical influences and a reason for the existence of Slice the Cake’s latest album),  seem to agree – Ne Obliviscaris has created one of the best albums of 2012 so far.  “Portal of I” is a monstrous hour-plus musical journey which takes you through soundscapes of a variety of death, black, progressive, folk, orchestral, and technical metal genres with a tendency towards a symphonic deathy-type atmosphere without actually being symphonic death – there’s lots of subtle piano parts and just oodles upon oodles of other shit going on…and I don’t know, you just have to experience it yourself!  There’s so many layers, it’s impossible to describe.
