The latest in my series of posts from the final months of the last blog that went WAY underappreciated. I just listened to this album again this morning and was immediately reminded why it was one of my absolute favorite posts ever...if I had heard of "Perennial" a little earlier in 2011, it would've easily wound up as one of my top 6 or 7 albums from all of last year. A beautiful blend of progression, composition, melody, technicality, and just all-around fucking awesomeness, "Perennial" takes its listener on a 45 minute journey through a dizzying array of styles of metal, almost like a heavier Between the Buried and Me. The song "Transmutation" is a perfect example of this, switching moods from reflective to unbridled aggression on a dime and flowing from one movement to another like a river, but the other songs on the "EP" (as they call it, it definitely feels like a full-length) go even heavier to still more atmospheric. I literally cannot overstate how fucking good this album is. If you're on this website and this isn't a staple on your playlist, correct that shit. AeneA is actually recording more stuff now, so yay <3

Perennial was easily my favourite underground album/EP of the year. It's just so fucking good.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well, such a good album. Not usually a fan of cleans, but those are tolerable. Some really good jams on that album though!
